HOUSTON (February 18, 2016) - The Houston Symphony will salute the King of Swing and the soaring sounds of the Big Band era in The Best of Benny Goodman at 8 p.m. February 26-27 and 7:30 p.m. February 28.

The orchestra, under the direction of Principal POPS Conductor Michael Krajewski, will be joined by The Dave Bennett Sextet. Led by clarinetist Dave Bennett, the ensemble also includes vocals, piano, bass, drums and guitar, and will pay tribute to Goodman with vibrant interpretations of his classics, including "Sing, Sing, Sing," "Let's Dance" and "These Foolish Things."

Krajewski, who has collaborated with Bennett previously, said, "Dave's extraordinary recreation of the sound and artistry of Benny Goodman brings the swing era back to life in all its splendor."

A self-taught musician, Bennett found his style by listening to Goodman's records. He began playing the clarinet at age 10 and is now known for his precise technique and authentic imitation inspired by Goodman's original style. Since developing his Benny Goodman tribute show, he has brought the program to the stages of 50 American and Canadian orchestras, including Nashville, Detroit, Rochester, Omaha, Toronto, Vancouver, Orlando, San Antonio, Jacksonville and Portland.

The concert will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. For tickets and information, please call (713) 224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change. No late seating will be allowed during the performance.
