The orchestra's performance on Monday, July 3, 2017, entitled, "An American Salute" begins at 7:30 p.m.
Complimentary water and ice cream will be provided by the Medical Center. Food and drink for purchase will be offered by eight food trucks parked along the perimeter of the crowd.
"It is a holiday tradition for our musicians and the community to celebrate the birth of our country with this annual concert on the lawn of the Medical Center. This year we've decided to perform on Monday, July 3rd for a couple of reasons. First, after our disappointing rain out last year, it'll allow us to use the 4th as a rain date. Secondly, it gives our audience a chance to sleep in the next morning on the 4th, as opposed to getting up early for work on the 5th." said Hershey Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Paul Metzger.
The first half of the concert will feature selections from the Broadway smash "Hamilton", a few John Williams pieces ("Star Wars") and other movie themes, a medley of Sinatra hits, and light classics,. For the second half of the concert, the Orchestra will present "A Salute to America," accompanied by Hershey Symphony Orchestra vocalists. These selections will celebrate America and provide a special tribute to the military.
The concert is under the direction of Bob Sproul and is sponsored by Penn Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, The Hershey Lodge, Sutliff Chevrolet and Hershey Symphony Orchestra. Parking is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit the Orchestra.
