George Frideric Handel composed his magnificent twelve Concerti Grossi, Opus 6, with incredible (but not atypical) speed. Handel completed the entire set between September 29 and October 30, 1739.

BRUCH Scottish Fantasy Throughout his career, Max Bruch received inspiration from the folk music of various countries.

In 1761, the German composer Christoph Willibald Gluck, and the Italian writer, Ranieri Calzabigi, met in Vienna. Both Gluck and Calzabigi were troubled by what they perceived as 18th-century Italian opera's emphasis of vocal display at the expense of drama.

Music lovers are the happy beneficiaries of Felix Mendelssohn's love for travel. The young composer's fulfilling 1829 journey to Scotland inspired two of his masterpieces, the Hebrides (Fingal's Cave) Overture (1830) and the "Scottish" Symphony (begun in 1829 and finally completed in 1842).

Recognized by The New Yorker as "an acclaimed expert in 18th-century style," Nicholas McGegan is an international conductor. Based in the San Francisco Bay area, where he is Music Director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (PBO), he is called upon by symphony orchestras across the globe.

Violinist Stefan Jackiw is recognized as one of his generation's most significant artists, with playing that combines poetry and purity with an impeccable technique.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, currently in its 67th season, consistently affirms its position as one of America's leading Orchestras by performing great music, presenting great artists, educating, and engaging.
