FridayFest, the free outdoor summertime music series and celebration set along the bayfront of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, still has two events left in the season with sixties music and Caribbean music from top Gulfcoast bands. FridayFest begins at 5pm and runs until 9pm.
Yesterdayze, a sixties tribute band, will be featured at FridayFest on August 28th, 2009 with all your favorite songs from the 1960's. Their set includes everything from the Beatles to Jimmy Hendrix, from Elvis to Dionne Warwick. The band's musicians live and breathe the sound of the ‘60's and invite their audience to join them in their journey to the past. Not only does Yesterdayze bring a blast from the past in their sound, but the musicians dress the part, recreating the entire 60's experience. This year's performance falls almost perfectly inline with the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock, so it will be an extra special celebration of an unforgettable decade of music.
Also, look out for Big Night Out, a Southwest Florida Latin/Caribbean band, bringing a blend of pulsing congas and bouncing rhythms to the Van Wezel FridayFest stage September 18th, 2009. The explosive horn section is something you won't want to miss.
For the best mix in music, add one part bandstand, one part sunset and one part shimmering Sarasota Bay and what do you get? FridayFest, an ideal way to unwind after a busy week and revive your spirits in an upbeat weekend.
Guests are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Local vendors offer food and beverages. Outside food is prohibited, along with coolers and weapons of any kind.
FridayFest runs rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the festival will move indoors to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
