Five Boroughs Music Festival Presents Pianist Martin Katz In Performances Dedicated To Hugo Wolf And Eduard Mörike

Five Boroughs Music Festival (5BMF) and the Brooklyn Art Song Society (BASS) present collaborative pianist Martin Katz in a three-event series, entitled Hugo Wolf: The Complete Mörike-Lieder, featuring two presentations and a free masterclass (open to the public) on the following dates:

• Part I: Sunday, April 28th, 4:00 PM at the Dweck Center, Brooklyn Public Library
• Part II: Friday, May 3, 7:30 PM at the Brooklyn Historical Society
• Masterclass: Saturday, May 4, 3:00 PM at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music

The two concerts feature Katz leading an ensemble of vocalists performing Hugo Wolf's beloved settings of 53 poems by German Romantic poet Eduard Mörike. The free public masterclass focuses on the Lieder of Wolf and features local singer/pianist duos. These events comprise Part III of BASS's ongoing Dichter Project, presenting musical settings of the greatest German poets.

Additional 5BMF performances in the 2018-19 season include two special programs celebrating LGBT composers and poets in collaboration with the New York Festival of Song and the LGBT Community Center ("The Center") on June 11 and 25.

About Martin Katz
Martin Katz has been dubbed "the gold standard of accompanists" by The New York Times. His 45-year career has taken him to 5 continents, collaborating with the world's most celebrated singers in recital and recording. Marilyn Horne, Frederica von Stade, Kathleen Battle, David Daniels, Karita Mattila, and Jose Carreras are among his regular partners, and he has recorded for RCA, CBS, BMG, EMI and Decca labels.

Katz is also active as a conductor and editor. He has led opera productions for San Francisco's Merola program, the BBC, Tokyo's NHK, as well as innumerable performances at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he is the Earl V. Moore Collegiate Professor of Music. His editions of baroque and bel canto operas have been performed in Houston, Ottawa, and at the Metropolitan Opera. At U-M for more than 3 decades, he has chaired the program in collaborative piano and coached vocal repertoire for singers and pianists alike. His students are working all over the world.

Now an author too, Mr. Katz's first opus, The Complete Collaborator, has been published by Oxford University Press.
