Feinstein & Shearing Toast Warren in CD Hopeless Romantics

Cabaret troubadour Michael Feinstein will join forces with jazz pianist George Shearing for Hopeless Romantics, a new CD celebrating the songs of Harry Warren; it will be released in stores on September 27th.

The CD, which will be available on the Concord Records label, will feature 15 of composer Warren's standards: "I Had the Craziest Dream," "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me," "This Heart of Mine," "At Last," "I'll String Along with You," "You're My Everything," "The More I See You," "Serenade in Blue," "I Know Why (And So Do You)," "September in the Rain," "Shadow Waltz," "There Will Never Be Another You," "I Only Have Eyes for You," and "You'll Never Know," as well as an alternate version of "You're My Everything."  

Warren is best known for 42nd Street, the snappy 1930s movie musical that inspired the Broadway tap extravaganza.  The musical interpolated songs from other Warren movie musicals as well.  Choreographed by Busby Berkeley, they included Gold Diggers of 1933, Gold Diggers of 1935, Go Into Your Dance and Dames.  For Twentieth Century Fox, Warren penned songs for Tin Pan Alley, That Night in Rio, The Gang's All Here and others.

A pianist and singer as well as a composer, arranger and all-around historian of American popular song, the Grammy-nominated Feinstein is the rare cabaret star to have a large, nationwide following.  He has released over 20 albums, most of which toast the songbooks of the greats of American popular standards and theatre music.  Among these are Nice Work if You Can Get It, Remember: Michael Feinstein Sings Irving Berlin, Such Sweet Sorrow, The MGM Album, Songbook albums featuring the music of Jerry Herman, Jule Styne and Burton Lane, and Romance on Film, Romance on Broadway.  He is the owner of cabaret mecca Feinstein's at the Regency.

The British-born Shearing, who has been blind since birth, has been a jazz star since the forties.  He was one of the first to jointly play a song's melody by piano and vibraphone, which has become a standard technique since.  Also a classical musician, he has collaborated with Peggy Lee, Mel Tormé, Carmen McRae, the John Pizzarelli Trio and others.
