Delaware County Symphony to Welcome Guest Soloist Amy Oshiro-Morales, 12/8

The Delaware County Symphony will present the second symphonic concert of the 2013-2014 season on Sunday December 8, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center at Neumann University.

Violinist Amy Oshiro-Morales is the featured guest soloist who will perform the ever popular Violin Concerto in D Minor by Jean Sibelius who was an accomplished violinist in his own right. For the soloist the concerto is a technical challenge. It is a Mount Everest of a violin concerto. It was written in the Romantic tradition of the virtuoso compositions of Mendelssohn, Bruch and Tchaikovsky. Sibelius intentionally composed the concerto with ever increasing levels of technical difficulties for the performer while still capturing many beautiful romantic melodies with a dreamy nostalgia of the Nordic countryside.

Amy Oshiro-Morales joined the Philadelphia Orchestra's violin section in 2008 and is now Acting Associate Concertmaster. Previously she was assistant associate concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony, and assistant concertmaster of the Grant Park Orchestra. Ms. Oshiro-Morales made her debut with the Chicago Symphony at the age of 12, and has since soloed with a number of prominent orchestras. She studied with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Oberlin Conservatory, then continued at the Juilliard School with Robert Mann. Ms. Oshiro-Morales has been a guest artist at the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Innsbrook Institute, among others.

The concert will also include Four French Carols by Kile Smith; English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Concert Overture "In the South" by Edward Elgar. All are invited to a free pre-concert presentation by Dr. Michael Kelly from 2-2:30 p.m. in the McNichol Room. Concert tickets are $18 or $15 for seniors/students. Neumann University students with ID are free and children under 12 (one child per paying adult) are free. There is ample free parking adjacent to the theatre and the center is handicapped accessible.
