The Cleveland POPS Orchestra traditional patriotic concert features 9 soloists from The Soldiers' Chorus, a component of the United States Army Field Band headquartered in Washington, D.C. Cleveland POPS Chorus lends its impressive collective voice to Cleveland's most cherished tribute to our heroes, along with the Mutual Gifts Gospel Choir. The concert will consist of military-inspired patriotic music, along with the marvelous 2014 Grand Prize winner of the Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship, 17-year old violinist Jieming Tang. Todd Meany, Fox 8 Reporter, will also perform.The evening is sponsored by Medical Mutual.

ABOUT THE SOLDIERS' CHORUS:

The Cleveland POPS is honored to have performances by nine soloist members of The Soldiers' Chorus in the Orchestra's 15th Annual Salute to Our Armed Forces concert on May 1, 2015 in Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.

Founded in 1957, The Soldiers' Chorus is the vocal complement of the United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC. The 29-member mixed choral ensemble travels throughout the nation and abroad, performing as a separate component and in joint concerts with the Concert Band of the "Musical Ambassadors of the Army." The chorus has performed in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, India, the Far East, and throughout Europe, entertaining audiences of all ages.

ABOUT VIOLINIST JIEMING TANG, CLEVELAND POPS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER,

Jieming Tang's performance in the Cleveland POPS Orchestra's "15th Annual Salute to Our Armed Forces" concert at Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on May 1, 2015 will be the fulfillment of his award as Grand Prize Winner of the 16th Annual Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship Competition.

Jieming Tang, age 17, came to the United States from China in 2010. He is currently a student in the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studies violin with Jaime Laredo and chamber music with Joel Smirnoff. His former teacher at CIM was Paul Kantor, with whom he studied violin from 2010 to 2012. Tang has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra since 2012, where he was recently appointed as concertmaster. He is also a junior at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland.
