In the final concert of its 25th Anniversary season dedicated to the five senses in music, the Chicago Philharmonic presents a program based around the venerable sense of sight. A Vision in Sound -- at Pick-Staiger Hall on June 7, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. -- will feature both old and new musical works as well as lithographs inspired by the evening's music. Artistic Director Scott Speck conducts.

The concert begins with blue cathedral, an inspiring work by Jennifer Higdon in which the orchestra's musicians play special instruments such as bells and tuned wine glasses. American composer Kenji Bunch was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's cartoonish pop art to create his jazzy Symphony No. 1, which follows. The orchestra closes with the ultimate symphonic work inspired by visual art - Pictures at an Exhibition - in which Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky evokes a variety of vivid scenes.

Before the concert, audience members are encouraged to explore a gallery of contemporary lithographs created by Chicago Philharmonic musician John Gaudette and inspired by Mussorgsky's Pictures. Tickets (adults: $25 - $75, students with ID: $10) can be purchased at (312) 957-0000 or chicagophilharmonic.org.

The Chicago Philharmonic is a musician-governed not-for-profit organization founded 25 years ago by principal musicians from the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Today, the orchestra is a collaboration of over 225 of the highest-level classical musicians performing in the metropolitan Chicago area and has consistently won accolades from music critics and audiences alike. The orchestra's symphonic concerts in Evanston, IL and their chamber series at locations all over the Chicago area cover the full spectrum of classical music, from the masters of Baroque to the composers of today. The Chicago Philharmonic is proud to serve as the official orchestra for the Joffrey Ballet and to have maintained a partnership with the Ravinia Festival for over 20 years.
