The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center moves into fall with nine different programs in Alice Tully Hall and The Rose Studio. A special highlight will be the world premiere of Clarice Assad's Metamorfose as part of the artist-curated Art of the Recital in the Rose Studio series featuring violist Matthew Lipman and pianist Henry Kramer (Nov. 29). Assad, a Grammy-nominated Brazilian-American composer, pianist and arranger, was approached by Lipman to write a work in memory of his mother. She says that Metamorfose "is an homage to Matt and his mom, a musical portrait of two different people, in two different worlds and instances, bound by the passage of time and love."
November mainstage concerts will include The Art of the Quintet with magnificent examples of the form played by artists including cellist and CMS Artistic Director David Finckel and clarinetist Tommaso Lonquich (Nov. 2); MEET THE MUSIC!, with series creator and host Bruce Adolphe, in its first family concert of the season with Inspector Pulse: How Suite It Is (Nov. 11); Schubert's beloved Trout Quintet headlining a diverse program with pianist Orion Weiss, violinist Paul Huang, violist Paul Neubauer, cellist Keith Robinson, and double bassist Xavier Foley, a Bowers Program Artist (formerly CMS Two) (November 13); Schubert's Death and the Maidenalongside works by Mussorgsky and Rachmaninoff with baritone Nikolay Borchev, pianist Wu Qian, and the award-winning Schumann Quartet (Nov. 18); and Windstorm, a collection of chamber music for wind instruments with Lise de la Salle (Bowers Program Artist) at the piano and an exceptional lineup of CMS wind players in works by Reicha, Thuille, Copland, and Mozart (Nov. 30).
In the Rose Studio, there will an innovative new music program of works by Grime, Corigliano, Pesson, and Adès (Nov. 8); as well as an evening of Mozart and Brahms with pianist Wu Qian, clarinetist David Shifrin, and the Schumann Quartet, a Bowers Program resident quartet (Nov. 15).
The Rose Studio will also offer a CMS Kids program titled Help Wanted: Composer. CMS Kids concerts are relaxed performances, informal, family-friendly curated for ages three to six that support sensation, communication, movement, and learning needs.
The November Help Wanted: Composer program investigates what's needed to fill the job of composer: the ability to explain every human emotion to every person of any age around the world, using only sound. Join host Rami Vamos and CMS artists Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet and James Jeonghwan Kim, cello, for a one-hour, interactive exploration of how composers turn emotions into musical works of art (Nov. 18).
Tickets may be purchased in person at the Alice Tully Hall box office at Broadway and West 65th St. or the CMS ticketing office at The Samuel B. and David Rose Building, 165 West 65th Street, 10th floor; by calling 212.875.5788; or online at www.chambermusicsociety.org.
