Broadway, cabaret and contemporary music will come together in "Weimar New York," a show featuring Michel Cerveris and Justin Bond, among others. It will be presented at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.) on January 19th at 11:30 PM.
Featuring Tony Award-winner Cerveris (upcoming
LoveMusik, Sweeney Todd, Assassins), with such performers as Julie Atlas Muz, Adam Dugas, Rachelle Garniez, Helen Stratford, Tigger!, Daniel Eisengart and The Pixie Harlots, the evening will be emceed by Bond (of Kiki and Herb fame).
Joe's Pub notes state that Weiman New York is "a theatrical cabaret that juxtaposes the aesthetic and music of
Weimar-era Berlin with that of the contemporary downtown performance
scene in New York City. Performers come to the show from a variety of
backgrounds: from classically trained singers and musicians to
performance artists and burlesque acts. The evening celebrates the
spirit of creative resistance that thrives in response to conservative
political forces be they the rising tides of Nazism in Weimar Germany
or fundamentalist Christianity taking root in the contemporary United
States."
"Weimar New York" was previously seen at Joe's Pub last year, and also played an engagement at New York's Spiegeltent early this fall.
