Below, note the following updates to Carnegie Hall's 2017-18 schedule, reflecting changes made since the season was originally announced in January 2017.


Carnegie Hall OPENING NIGHT GALA
THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA
Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

ARTIST UPDATE:
Legendary jazz artist Chick Corea joins world-renowned pianist Lang Lang as featured soloists at performing a two-piano arrangement of Gershwin's jazz-influenced Rhapsody in Blue, collaborating with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Also performing Rhapsody in Blue at the keyboard side-by-side with Lang Lang is 14-year-old American pianist Maxim Lando, an accomplished alumnus of the Lang Lang Foundation's Young Scholars Program. Lando is delighted to join this special musical occasion, partnering with Lang Lang who continues his recovery from an inflammation in his left arm.


TAKÁCS QUARTET
Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
The Takács Quartet performs the US premiere of Carl Vine's String Quartet No. 6, "Child's Play," co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project. Also on the program is Haydn's String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76, No. 2, "Fifths" and Mendelssohn's String Quintet No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 87 with violist Erika Eckert.


ORCHESTRA OF ST. LUKE'S

Soprano Susanna Phillips steps in for previously announced soloist Kate Lindsey in Mozart's Mass in C Minor, K. 427, "Great," with Orchestra of St. Luke's led by Conductor Laureate Pablo Heras- Casado.


SPHINX VIRTUOSI

PROGRAM UPDATE:
The Sphinx Virtousi performs an all-string program that includes The New York premiere of Jimmy López's Guardian of the Horizon: Concerto Grosso for Violin, Cello, and Strings, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall as part of its 125 Commissions Project; Vivaldi's Concerto in B-flat Major for Violin, Cello, and Continuo, RV 547; Beethoven's Grosse Fuge, Op. 133; Ralph Vaughan Williams's Concerto grosso; and Michael Abels's Delights and Dances.


Carnegie Hall FAMILY CONCERT: PETER AND THE WOLF AND OTHER STORIES

CONCERT ADDITION:
Orchestra of St. Luke's, led by conductor Edwin Outwater, performs three family-friendly stories for orchestra and narrator: Prokofiev's classic Peter and the Wolf; the world premiere of Caroline Shaw's adaptation of The Mountain That Loved a Bird by Alice McLerran, commissioned by Carnegie Hall; and The New York premiere of Robert Xavier Rodriguez's take on a favorite children's book, The Dot and the Line by Norton Juster, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Renowned actor John Lithgow narrates all three stories, bringing children's literature to life with classical music and vibrant visuals.


RENÉE FLEMING / Inon Barnatan

ARTIST AND PROGRAM ADDITION:
Pianist Inon Barnatan collaborates with soprano Renée Fleming on a program that includes songs by Brahms, Previn, R. Strauss, and Egon Kornauth. Also featured on the program is the world premiere of a new work by Caroline Shaw, commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project.


STANDARD TIME WITH Michael Feinstein
Wednesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m.

ARTIST AND PROGRAM ADDITIONS:
Special guest cabaret star Ali McGregor and tap-dancing songstresses The Honey Taps perform alongside pianist Tedd Firth, bassist Phil Palombi, and drummer Mark McLean, joining five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer, pianist, and renowned interpreter of the Great American Songbook Michael Feinstein, in a program entitled Harold Arlen: The World on a String, launching his annual Carnegie Hall series, Standard Time with Michael Feinstein.


AN INTIMATE EVENING WITH RICKIE LEE JONES

CONCERT ADDITION:
Presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with WFUV, the legendary Grammy Award-winning musician Rickie Lee Jones performs an intricate mix of jazz and rock in Zankel Hall.


DANIIL TRIFONOV
Sunday, October 28, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
To launch his season-long Perspectives series, pianist Daniil Trifonov pays homage to Chopin in a solo recital that includes music by the Polish composer alongside works that he inspired, written by Tchaikovsky, Barber, Rachmaninoff, Mompou, Schumann, and Grieg.


ENSEMBLE SIGNAL
Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
Ensemble Signal, led by conductor Brad Lubman, performs an all-Steve Reich program that includes The New York premiere of Runner, as well as Clapping Music, Quartet, and Double Sextet. Also on the program is Pulse, which replaces the previously announced Radio Rewrite.


AMJAD ALI KHAN

ARTIST ADDITIONS:
Amjad Ali Khan, one of India's most celebrated classical musicians, plays the sarod alongside tabla players Nilan Chaudhuri and Vineet Vyas.


ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

PROGRAM UPDATE:
On November 7, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta, gives The New York premiere of Amit Poznansky's Footnote Suite on a program that also features Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37, with pianist Yefim Bronfman, and R. Strauss's Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40. The following evening, on November 8, the orchestra is joined by mezzo-soprano Mihoko Fujimura, MasterVoices (Ted Sperling, artistic director), and the Manhattan Girls Chorus (Michelle Oesterle, artistic director) for a performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 3.


THE CHILDREN'S MONOLOGUES
Monday, November 13, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

EVENT ADDITION:
The US premiere of The Children's Monologues, directed by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle, features an all-star cast to include Daveed Diggs, Lena Dunham, Daniel Kaluuya, James McAvoy, Audra McDonald, Ewan McGregor, Javier Muñoz, Trevor Noah, Susan Sarandon, and Charlize Theron telling the unforgettable stories of children growing up in Rammulotsi, South Africa. Adapted for the stage by award-winning writers, the production will give audience members a powerful glimpse into a world in which young people are forced to grapple with astonishing challenges. As with the two previous London productions, the event will incorporate elements of music, dance, and the visual arts. The performance will also feature teens from across New York City invited by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute to take part in this special program. All proceeds from this one-night-only benefit performance go to jointly support the international outreach programs of the African-based creative arts charity Dramatic Need and Carnegie Hall's artistic and education initiatives.


NEW YORK STRING ORCHESTRA
Sunday, December 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
Haydn's Symphony No. 103 in E-flat Major, "Drumroll" replaces his Symphony No. 102 in B-flat Major on the program by New York String Orchestra, conducted by Jaime Laredo. The concert also features Mozart's Sinfonia concertante in E-flat Major, K. 364, featuring violinist Pamela Frank, and Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor for Two Violins, Strings, and Continuo from L'estro armonico, Op. 3, No. 8.


DENIS MATSUEV

Pianist Denis Matsuev performs a solo recital that features Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat Major, Op. 110 and Piano Sonata No. 17 in D Minor, Op. 31, No. 2, "The Tempest," along with Tchaikovsky's Piano Sonata in G Major, Op. 37.

ARTIST ADDITIONS:
Vocalists Nicole Cabell, Susanna Phillips, Isabel Leonard, Beste Kalender, Russell Thomas, Leonardo Capalbo, Lester Lynch, Edward Parks, and pianists Martin Katz and Warren Jones come together in a festive evening to honor the legendary Marilyn Horne-the dynamic, moving force behind The Song Continues-as she ends her glorious tenure leading the series.

Composer Philip Glass, holder of the 2017-2018 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair, and the Philip Glass Ensemble are joined by conductor Michael Riesman, the San Francisco Girls Chorus (Valérie Sainte-Agathe, conductor), and students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to perform the composer's groundbreaking yet rarely performed masterpiece Music with Changing Parts as part of the citywide festival The '60s: The Years that Changed America.

Composer and vocalist Gabriel Kahane joins Ensemble Connect for The New York premiere of his bright and fair, commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project. Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and pianist Lambert Orkis will perform Brahms's Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100 in place of the previously announced Violin Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108. The duo also collaborates on the world premiere of André Previn's The Fifth Season for Violin and Piano, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project; Bach's Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004; and Penderecki's Violin Sonata No. 2.

Ana Morales, former principal dancer of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, collaborates with vocalists Carmen Linares, Marina Heredia, and Arcángel for a virtuosic program that spans flamenco's gypsy roots to its modern innovations. They are joined by guitarists Miguel Ángel Cortés, José Quevedo "Bolita," and percussionist Paquito González. This concert is presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Flamenco Festival, Inc.

Following the release of their first album together in nearly 20 years, violinist Itzhak Perlman and pianist Martha Argerich reunite to perform Bach's Violin Sonata No. 4 in C Minor, BWV 1017; Schumann's Fantasiestücke, Op. 73 and Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 105; and Franck's Violin Sonata in A Major.

Violinist Elena Urioste joins the American Composers Orchestra and Music Director and Conductor George Manahan for The New York premiere of Clarice Assad's Dreamscapes. For this program, the quartet performs The New York premieres of Xavier Foley's Cranberry Juice and a new work by GabriElla Smith, as well as dynamic solo and duo works by Schumann, Messiaen, Amy Beach, Reinhold Glière, and Ravel.

Stockhausen's Klavierstück I has been added to Perspectives artist Daniil Trifonov's solo piano recital in which he plays a seminal piece from each decade of the 20th century by composers including Berg, Copland, John Adams, Thomas Adès, and others.

Soprano Pretty Yende joins The MET Orchestra with Music Director Emeritus and Conductor James Levine for a performance of Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate and Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major. Featured on the program is also the world premiere of Charles Wuorinen's Eros and Nemesis. The previously announced Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98 by Brahms has been removed from the program.
