This year the Canton Symphony Orchestra is proud to bring back their favorite Kent-based band, The Speedbumps, for a third collaborative concert. On February 11, 2017, the CSO and The Speedbumps will travel to the historic Canton Palace Theatre to show off in a truly "locally grown" concert. They will begin at 8:00PM on Saturdaynight, and the audience will be treated to some of the band's past hits, as well as some of their new releases. This concert is sponsored in part by the W. Henry Hoover Foundation. The CSO will be conducted by Associate Conductor Dr. Rachel Waddell, a favorite for the passion and excitement she brings to the Pops concerts. Keep the party going at The Speedbumps After Party at the Canton Brewing Company's Speakeasy, located at 225 Market Ave N., Canton OH, 44702. Tickets will include complimentary pizza and snack, there will be a cash bar, and you might even win a prize!

About the Speedbumps:
The Speedbumps are an award-winning American band with a warm, authentic sound, built on a passion for hollow-bodied instruments, indie-folk influences, and singer-songwriter Erik Urycki's breathy, commanding vocals and canny phrasing. The band's roots lie deep in the Rustbelt, where quiet strength and limited embellishment define the culture. The working class towns around Akron, the former rubber capital, from which artists like The Black Keys, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and Joseph Arthur have emerged, have provided the band with an aesthetic that seeks to tease out beauty from the gritty details of everyday life.

The band consists of Erik Urycki on vocals and guitar, Sam Kristoff playing cello - often where you'd expect a guitar riff, Kevin Martinez and Ryan Critchfield on acoustic and electric bass, Bethany Svododa on vocals and wurlitzer and two members on drums and percussion, Danny Jenkins and Canton native Patrick Hawkins.

The Speedbumps have won IMA and AMA awards and performed with artists including Andrew Bird, G-Love and OKGO. Daryl Rowland, writing for the Huffington Post, said that singer Erik Urycki's lyrics "often tackle complex human emotions with elegant economy."

About The Canton Palace Theatre:
Built in 1926, The Canton Palace Theatre was a gift to the community from Harry Harper Ink, a local entrepreneur and industrialist who owned the Canton-based Tonsiline company, makers of a cough syrup formula marketed in unique giraffe-shaped bottles. Originally created for vaudeville performances and movies, this atmospheric theatre was designed to feel like a Spanish courtyard on a midsummer night and is filled with ornate architectural details. To date, approximately four million dollars have been spent restoring the magnificence of the building and now over 300 events are held here annually with an attendance of over 100,000 guests. The historic theatre is located at 605 Market Avenue North, Canton OH 44702
