The Canton Symphony Orchestra's free lecture series, ConverZations, premieres at noon on September 8th, 2014. ConverZations are public discussions with members of the CSO community on topics relating to music and the orchestra. The series continues at noon on the second Monday of every month from October 2014 to May 2015 in the Zimmermann Symphony Center, 2331 17th St. NW-Canton.

Rachel Waddell, Assistant Conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra since 2012, will provide the first lecture, titled "Know the Score." Ms. Waddell will discuss notable historical events in music history, and how these events enhance musical understanding. As Assistant Conductor for the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Waddell has a keen interest in the history of classical music. "The job of the conductor is to begin with the composer," Waddell says. "Art is informed by culture. By understanding the time period in which a composer lived, people can appreciate why a composer made certain artistic decisions."

The ConverZations are interactive events and will feature a brief question and answer session with the presenter. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.
