Brian Stokes Mitchell Plays Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 12/12

For one night only, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presents Brian Stokes Mitchell, a Tony Award winner who has captivated audiences all over the country, on December 12, 2009 at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall. 

Brian Stokes Mitchell is a quintessential musical theater performer who will charm the audience during an evening filled with show tunes, ballads and classic love songs. This noteworthy performer has been wowing crowds for several decades on Broadway stages and in concerts, TV shows, and films. He has received high praise on Broadway, earning a Tony Award, multiple Tony nominations, and a Helen Hayes Award in 2003 for portraying the dual roles of Cervantes and Don Quixote in the revival of Man of La Mancha.

On Broadway, Brian Stokes Mitchell was lauded for his performance as FrEd Graham/Petruchio in the 2000 revival of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate, which earned him Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. He was also Tony-nominated for his performance in 2001's King Hedley II, and in 1998's Ragtime, for which he also became the sole recipient of the Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award, the nation's oldest theatrical honor.

Aside from his success on Broadway, Brian Stokes Mitchell's performances as a solo vocalist have been praised by critics nationwide and achieved sold-out status at the Hollywood Bowl, Disney Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Tanglewood and Ravinia. Most recently, he starred in a Christmas concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in a 24,000 seat auditorium, playing four packed performances, which will be aired on PBS this upcoming holiday season.

Also boasting a varied career in television, Brian Stokes Mitchell had a recurring role on "Trapper John, M.D." for seven years, and a featured performance on an episode of the PBS show -In Performance at the White House.? He has been featured in roles on "Crossing Jordan," "Frasier," and PBS' "Great Performances." He has also appeared in films such as "One Last Thing" which debuted at this year's Toronto Film Festival, and "The Prince of Egypt." In 2006 he released his self-titled album as the inaugural artist on the newly-formed Playbill Records label. He is currently at work mixing two live albums from his appearances at Feinstein's, New York City's acclaimed cabaret venue.

The Adrienne Arsht Center, designed by world-renowned architect Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, includes the 2,400-seat Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, the 2,200-seat John S. and James L.
