Amidst the sea of new holiday music releases in 2014, The Boys of St. Paul's Choir School's international debut recording Christmas in Harvard Square(Decca/Aim Higher Recordings/UMC) sparkles with its heartwarming charm. The choir's organic success has evolved into an inspiring story alongside inspired musicmaking. This talented and humble group of schoolboys Grades 4-8 were never actively seeking the limelight, but were signed to a record deal in their own backyard based purely on their undeniable singing and collective talents.
Sitting in the Top 5 of Billboard's Classical Traditional Chart for 9 straight weeks, the Boys have also earned critical praise and mainstream media attention along the way for their "angelic voices" (Wall Street Journal) of "otherworldly beauty" (Los Angeles Times). The Boys will also be profiled on CBS This Morning, give a special performance on Christmas Eve for Good
Morning America, and can be heard on SiriusXM's
Symphony Hall (December 21-23) and American Public Media's Performance Today as well as their own PBS special "Christmas in Harvard Square."
Choirmaster Mr.
John Robinson thoughtfully hand-picked the repertoire for Christmas in Harvard Square which includes ethereal renditions of classics including "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," and "Angels We Have Heard," among others. The album was produced by the Grammy Award-winning Blanton Alspaugh.
Having recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, The Boys of St. Paul's Choir School have performed with the Boston
Symphony Orchestra and Leonard Bernstein, on the legendary stage of Carnegie Hall, in St. Peter's Square at the
Vatican for Pope Francis, and countless Boston Red Sox and Celtics games. The academy has been described not as a school with a choir, but as a choir with a school. Located in the heart of Harvard Square, the school has had a large impact within the Harvard community.
