Singer/Songwriter, Grey Gardens star and two-time Tony Award nominee Bob Stillman will appear at The Zipper Factory (336 West 37th Street) on Monday evening, June 25 at 7:30 PM, performing his original music and lyrics with his 4-piece band.
Stillman will perform the one-night-only event on his night off from Grey Gardens. In the musical, he plays George Gould Strong, the boozy accompanist and confidante of real-life society matron Edith Bouvier Beale.
While known primarily as an acclaimed singer/actor for his performances in such Broadway productions as Dirty Blonde (Tony nomination, Jefferson Award), Grand Hotel, Kiss of the Spider Woman (opposite Vanessa Williams) and Souvenir, Stillman is also an accomplished and Tony-nominated songwriter. He studied piano at Juilliard and composition at Princeton (and yes, he's actually playing the piano on stage in Grey Gardens). "His songs feature soaring melodies, solid grooves and finely-crafted lyrics of wit and emotion, blending folk-rock, jazz and classical influences into a uniquely personal style," state press materials.
Stillman's additional credits include the Off-Broadway and Regional productions: Grey Gardens (Playwrights Horizons), As You Like It (NYSF, directed by Mark Lamos), Adam Guettel's Saturn Returns (directed by Tina Landau), Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again (Lincoln Center), The Last Session, Candide (Goodman Theatre) and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind (directed by Harold Prince). TV work includes: "Law & Order," "Guiding Light," "Star Trek Voyager," "Allegra's Window." Recordings include: Come Down Angel (original songs) and the cast albums for Grey Gardens, The Last Session and Grand Hotel.
The band includes Eric Nicolas on guitar, Marty Beller on drums, Jeremy Chatzky on bass and Dave Eggar on cello.
Tickets are $20 and are available at www.zippertheater.com and (212) 352-3101. For additional information on Bob Stillman or Grey Gardens, visit www.bobstillman.com and www.greygardensthemusical.com.
