On May 2, 2009, the Bach Festival Choir and Youth Choir joined forces once again with the London Symphony Orchestra, performing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at the final performance of the LSO's residency at the Daytona Beach International Festival. The concert was a great success and received a standing ovation.
The performance garnered rave reviews in the Daytona Beach News Journal, the DeLand-Deltona Beacon, and the Orlando Sentinel. The Sentinel article by writer Scott Warfield was picked up and reprinted in the Chicago Tribune. Gareth Davies, principal flute for the London Symphony, blogged extensively about the performance on his LSO Travel blog. Excerpts from some of the reviews are below.Gareth Davies, principal flute for the LSO, said of the performance on his blog:
"The stage was groaning with the weight of the orchestra, soloists, and surely one of the best choirs I have heard, the Bach Festival Choir from Orlando.... The choir sang as if their lives depended on it; they really were quite outstanding.... The real stars of this show were the chorus."
