Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra's free community Fall Concert at Bainbridge Performing Arts features two string orchestras: the Senior Orchestra, and the Sinfonietta. Performers, ranging in ages from 7 to 18, are led by BSO/BIYO Music Director Wesley Schulz. This is the first of three Community Concerts Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra plays annually on Bainbridge Island. BIYO will also perform in a side-by-side concert April 18 & 19 with the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra (BSO), a holiday concert at Pacific Place in Seattle December 13, and a school outreach tour February 27 at local public and private schools.
BIYO serves a vital role in the community given that stringed instruments are not part of the Bainbridge Island public school curriculum. A non-profit 501 (c)3 local organization, the organization presents young musicians with the opportunity to learn ensemble skills that are essential to becoming advanced musicians. Through study of orchestral music, students learn both the importance of striving for excellence and the responsibilities of working in community with others. BIYO actively promotes musicianship, cooperation, camaraderie, and an understanding of the effects of music to bring joy and beauty in our world.
Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra's Fall Concert is Sunday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Bainbridge Performing Arts, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island. Doors open for seating at 3:45 p.m.
BPA and BIYO are supported, in part, by Bainbridge Community Foundation and One Call for All.
