Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts welcomes the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) on Thursday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Joining the ACO will be New Zealand opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes. The concert program includes Mahler, Shostakovich, and modern composers such as Robert Saxton. Teddy Tahu Rhodes will performing Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte and Richard Rodney Bennett's Songs Before Sleep.
A common denominator among ACO's performances is their high energy and thrilling stage presence that engages audiences. Founded in 1975, the ACO currently performs under the direction of violinist Richard Tognetti. Under Tognetti's leadership, the ACO has performed as a flexible and versatile "ensemble of soloists," on modern and period instruments, as a small chamber group, a small symphony orchestra, and as an electro-acoustic collective.
Award-winning baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes started his career at the early age of twenty after winning the prestigious Dame Sister Mary Leo Scholarship as New Zealand's most promising singer. Rhodes' international performance highlights include
Don Giovanni in Bordeaux,
South Pacific for Opera Australia,
Gugielmo at the Washington Opera,
Stanley at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, as well as the Metropolitan Opera. He has been filmed on BBC and with the Metropolitan Opera, and has been recorded under the label of EMI and Deutshe Grammophon.
The April 12 concert is part of the Flora Glenn Candler series. Event details at
