The Grammy Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra extended the audience favorite Delta POPS! season to include 10 performances for the 2015-16 season. Six of the 10 concerts will be led by Principal Delta POPS! Conductor Michael Krajewski.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra POPS! season tickets are now available in three concert evening or matinee packages or a six concert package. Single tickets go on sale August 20, 2015, 10 a.m. for both the Delta Classical and Delta POPS! series at atlantasymphony.org.
The Delta POPS! season will open with Classical Mystery Tour, a tribute to the Beatles. Fifty years ago, the Beatles played their only Atlanta concert at what was then Atlanta Stadium, and on October 16 and 17, 2015, Classical Mystery Tour and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, led by Michael Krajewski, will recreate that concert with an evening of iconic Beatles classics. Just in time for Halloween, Delta POPS! continues with October 30-31, 2015 performances of Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton. This spooky series entry includes the scores to the 1989 film Batman as well as Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Epic silver screen soundtracks are also on the repertoire for three performances of Star Wars and More: The Best of John Williams on November 27-28, 2015. Audiences will enjoy a warm up for the December theatrical release of the next Star Wars feature film, as well as Oscar-nominated scores from Superman, Saving Private Ryan and Jurassic Park as well as music from the films featuring Harry Potter and Indiana Jones. A family-friendly matinee is on November 28, 2015 at 2 p.m.
Two holiday spectaculars will spread joy for the season in December with Cirque de la Symphonie back by popular demand on December 4-6, 2015 and A Very Merry Holiday POPS! set for December 17 and 19, 2015, including family matinee options. Cirque de la Symphonie features acrobats, jugglers and clowns performing visual and aerial feats supported by an array of classical hits. For Holiday POPS!, Michael Krajewski and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will be joined by vocalists Capathia Jenkins, Morris Robinson and the All City High School Chorus.
On January 2-3, 2016, Delta POPS! kicks off the new year with a special showing of the holiday classic Home Alone with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra playing the John Williams score live to the film under the baton of Constantine Kitsopolous. This concert will have a special Sunday matinee on January 3, 2016.
Audiences will love the February 12-14, 2016 performances of Valentine's Romance featuring jazz bandleader John Pizzarelli performing guitar and vocals alongside his wife vocalist Jessica Molaskey. Delta POPS! kicks off spring with Tapestry: The Carole King Songbook featuring Broadway star Liz Callaway with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, led by Michael Krajewski on March 18-19, 2016. The ASO Chorus will join the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to perform stage hits from The Golden Age of Broadway on May 18-19, 2016.
The series concludes on May 27-29, 2016 with Michael Cavanaugh performing the Music of Elton John and More! featuring "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Bennie and the Jets", "Your Song" and "Rocket Man" with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and conductor Stuart Chafetz.
