The Arts at Millersville's Fifth Season, along with the inaugural new Popular Music Series of Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (LSO), will kick off with a performance for classical and popular music lovers alike, Hollywood Heroes and Villains. This family-friendly, full orchestra performance is a tribute to Hollywood's greatest composers with new and old music favorites from The Hobbit, The Wizard of Oz, Frozen, Star Wars, and Batman. Kids are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite hero or villain and participate in a fun, indoor parade at the start of the show. Plus, feel like a star when you step into a Hollywood-themed photo booth by PhotOlé Photography to capture the fun of the evening.
The orchestra will dive into both the dark side and the bright side of iconic storylines to create a rich, exciting experience. In "Star Wars Saga: Suite (1977 and 1980)", for instance, pieces are dedicated to both Yoda and Darth Vader. "Medley from the film Frozen", arranged by Bob Krogstad, explores the sisterly tenderness as well as conflict between characters Anna and Elsa.
Directing the show will be Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser, Conductor and Music Director of LSO for 35 years. His recordings have sold over two million copies, and his compact disc of Vivaldi's Four Seasons has sold more than 800,000 copies. He is the fifth most recorded American conductor.
Hollywood Heroes and Villains will synchronize the intentions of both the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and The Arts at Millersville to provide musical enrichment to patrons and increase their ability to support fine performances from two of Lancaster's premier arts organizations. LSO Executive Director Paige McFarling explains, "Classical music is and always will be the core of our programs under Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser's artistic direction, and this new series allows us to expand our programming and let our hair down a bit more."
The performance will take place in Clair Performance Hall at the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center on the campus of Millersville University, located at 60 W. Cottage Ave., Millersville, PA. Running time will be approximately 90 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission.
