The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is now accepting applications for the 2019 Young Artist Competition. The chosen selection to be performed must be a work published for solo and orchestra with score and parts available for rental or purchase. Applications, along with a video of the applicant performing his or her accompanied concerto movement, must be accompanied by a $35 application fee and be postmarked by May 10, 2019. All checks must be made payable to the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
Young musicians enrolled in grades K through 12 during the 2019-2020 academic year are invited to apply as a vocal or instrumental soloist. Performers must provide their own piano accompanists. The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra may facilitate an accompanist for the live audition round for a fee of $85. Applicants need not reside in Ann Arbor or Michigan to enter.
"Our goal is to highlight talented the young musicians that are the future of classical music," says Education and Community Engagement Manager Kira Woodfield Leeper. "The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra was founded by a group of talented young student musicians, and we believe that highlighting young artists is a part of our orchestra's identity."
Finalists will be invited to perform at a live juried audition on Saturday, June 15, 2019. All finalists will receive written feedback from the jurors.
