Join us for a sensual and unique fusion of classical, flamenco, and jazz on guitar, banjo, ukulele, and harp guitar. Original Spanish-influenced music combines with Bach, Leonard Cohen, jazz standards, East Indian rhythms, fiery South American songs, and early music and improvisations on the Beatles. On April 10, one night only at BPA, Andre Feriante and The Bohemian Entourage present STRING STORIES -- an evening of passionate music, replete with improvisation, humor, and storytelling.
Beginning with his first concert in Rome in 1979, Seattle-based, award winning, Segovia-trained guitar artist/composer Andre Feriante has performed for over three decades in Europe, S. America and throughout the U.S., bringing his sensual, contemporary blend of classical, flamenco and Brazilian styles to people from all walks of life. Through his performances in recent years, along with his latest albums Beatles Masquerade and Novella, Ukulele Mosaique, Feriante has garnered rave reviews for applying his innovative approach and guitar mastery to rare instruments such as custom ukuleles and the nylon stringed banjo. Feriante's concerts promise inspiring musical journeys with original music, classical and jazz standards, vocals in Italian, and poetry over guitar. Feriante was named "Best Local Musician" by Seattle Magazine, and, according to Harriet Bullitt, "Feriante's guitar truly sings."
The Bohemian Entourage showcases Stella Rossi's neo-flamenco dance, guitar, and vocals and Anil Prasad on world-fusion tabla and cajon. Beginning her artistic career at the young age of three, Stella joined the National Ballet Folklorico Municipal of Asuncion at age 15, performing as an ambassador of the Paraguayan culture in several International Festivals around the globe. Rossi also performs with her own band, Deseo Carmin (www.reverbnation.com/deseocarmin). A student of tabla masters Tor Dietrichson, Ustad Akram Khan, and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Prasad records and performs with many western, world music, and Indian groups in Seattle and beyond, including sitar master Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee.
Solo artist, support artist, composer, and educator Clipper Anderson joins The Bohemian Entourage as a special guest for this performance. Hailed as a virtuosic improviser, Anderson is known for creating intelligent lines, which are often executed with stunning speed and precision. Earshot Jazz has aptly described Anderson as "a player for the connoisseur to savor," and his musical resume is as impressive as it is deep. He has played with a long list of jazz greats including Michael Brecker, Arturo Sandoval, Dave Samuels, Peter Erskine, Bruce Forman, Tamir Hendelman, Bob Mintzer, Lew Soloff, Bucky Pizzarelli, Benny Golson, Paquito D'Rivera, Phil Woods and Buddy DeFranco.
