Adelaide Youth Orchestras is set to reach even more classical music lovers in 2016 as it announces an exciting program of orchestral works, while offering more convenient concert times and specially discounted tickets for under-30s.

Including performances by the Adelaide Youth Orchestra (AdYO), Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra (AdYWO), Adelaide Youth Sinfonia (AdSI) and the Adelaide Youth Strings (AYS), the 2016 season continues the company's tradition of presenting unique and rarely heard works that will not only challenge and nurture its talented young musicians, but also engage audiences.

This year young audiences will have 30 more great reasons to get involved with the new 30-4-30 Pass, a special ticket for under 30s that provides entry to every AdYO concert for just $30 all up - a saving of 75 to 85 per cent off regular ticket prices. Simply buy a 30-4-30 Pass online at www.bit.ly/adyo30430, and show your digital ticket on your smart phone at the door for entry.

"AdYO already has a strong following of young audiences, and we're keen to make it even easier for them to attend our inspiring concerts," says AdYO General Manager Christopher Wainwright.

"The new 30-4-30 Pass makes attending our concerts incredibly affordable for young people, with prices working out to be even cheaper than a student ticket."

Families will also now find it easier to enjoy AdYO's program, with its Sunday night concerts moving to a new afternoon start time of 3.00pm.

Highlights of AdYO's 2016 program include:

Maestro Series 1: High Drama (Sunday, April 3, Elder Hall)
Featuring rising star cellist David Moran performing the elegant and lyrical Cello Concerto by Boccherini, Brahms' sublime and dramatic Tragic Overture and Franck's masterpiece Symphony No 2 in D minor in its first performance by Adelaide Youth Orchestra since 2002.

Maestro Series 2: Pure Poetry (Tuesday, June 21, Adelaide Town Hall)
This special concert officially celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Adelaide Town Hall features Adelaide-born, prize-winning pianist Mekhla Kumar performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 4. Also on the program are Wagner's stunning masterpiece Prelude und Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, and Tchaikovsky's joyous Symphony No 2.

Maestro Series 3: Sweeping Romance (Sunday, September 11, Elder Hall)
Dreamy romantic classics balance with the thrill of a new work as AdYO presents the South Australian premiere of Victorian composer Stefan Cassomenos' Sinfionietta, alongside Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 4 in F Minor and Chausson'sPoème, featuring acclaimed international violinist Elizabeth Layton in her first appearance with AdYO.

Gala Concert: Celebrate (Sunday, November 20, Adelaide Town Hall)
AdYO will finish the year with a bang - literally - at its annual Gala concert when all four orchestras come together with the SA Youth Brass to perform Tchaikovsky's famous 1812 Overture, as well as orchestral highlights from the year's program.

Thanks to sell-out suburban performances over the past three years, the 2016 season will see AdYO continue its popular concerts outside the Adelaide CBD, with performances scheduled in Marion, Golden Grove and Brighton.

Also returning in 2016 is AdYO's Schools Program, touring Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra and Adelaide Youth Strings to schools around Adelaide, and the Senior Heroes Concert Series supported by Alfred James Funeral Directors, featuring private recitals in residential care facilities so those experiencing mobility issues can enjoy live orchestral or chamber music experiences.

Other season highlights include a free lunchtime show at Adelaide Botanic Garden (September 17) and Orchestra Play Time (Sunday, June 5), an interactive concert for children aged one to four.

Adelaide Youth Orchestras' Artistic Director, Associate Professor Keith Crellin OAM, says AdYO concerts are an uplifting experience for both the musicians and audiences.

"Audiences have often commented on the infectious enthusiasm that is a staple of Adelaide Youth Orchestras' concerts," Associate Professor Crellin says.

"It is obvious that these are young people having the time of their life and to be an audience member is a very satisfying and enjoyable experience."
