Two alumni from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) Talent Development Program (TDP) and the ASO Assistant Concertmaster were recently invited to perform at the prestigious, international Classical/Pops Festival taking place on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Talent Development Program alumnus Keanu Mitanga (violin, 2014) and TDP alumna Katherine Algarra (double bass, 2008) will perform at the two-day music festival this weekend, December 12-14, 2014. Mr. Mitanga, Ms. Algarra and Mr. Bruns will join an "All-Star Orchestra" comprised of 65 members from the world's most prominent symphonies, ranging from the Boston Symphony Orchestra to the New York Philharmonic. The invitation to TDP alumni was made at the recommendation of legendary harpist, Ann Hobson Pilot, after hearing TDP students and alumni perform during the program's 2014 Alumni Legacy Concert.
"The most difficult thing for graduates of any training program is getting opportunities to perform with the world's top orchestras; I thought this would be a wonderful way for them to gain invaluable experience and forge relationships that will last a lifetime," said Ms. Pilot.
Their participation at the festival is graciously underwritten by Barbados Tourism Marketing, Inc. and JetBlue Airways as part of their fifth-year anniversary celebration of service to the island.
The festival will feature the Orchestra playing with some of the world's best artists and groups in a program that features a "Film Night," a "Holiday Pops" program and more, from classical to contemporary repertoire.
