The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will host its inaugural "First Friday" concert on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Orchestra in Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Stephen Hough and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.
This concert is the first of five "First Friday" classical concerts to be held at 6:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall. These concerts, lasting approximately one hour without intermission, will feature abbreviated versions of the week's subscription performances. Patrons are encouraged to arrive to the Woodruff Arts Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. for drink specials and light fare.
On Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., Mr. Spano will lead the Orchestra in the subscription weekend performances of Copland's Symphony No. 2 ("Short Symphony"), Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Mr. Hough, and Stravinsky's Petrushka.
Following the concert on Friday, November 1, 2013, the Orchestra will host its second Symphony Social of the 2013-14 season. Designed as a networking event for young professionals, the event will include hors d'oeuvres and specialty cocktails, and the opportunity to mingle with Atlanta Symphony musicians. Tickets are $25, must be purchased in advance, and include admission to the evening's Orchestra performance. Additional details will be announced.
