Primor Sluchin, trained in the French School of the harp by the greatest names of the instrument, perpetuates a tradition of excellence, virtuosity and poetry. Inspired, rigorous, and ever-exploring new musical fields, she offers the sound of a precise, assertive and sparkling harp.

Her talent and her work have been recognized with numerous awards in France and abroad. She was the unanimous 1st Prize winner during her studies at the

Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. She was awarded the 1st Prize at the International UFAM Competition, the Arles's Chamber Music Competition and the special Spedidam prize at the International Martine Géliot Harp Competition. In 2002, she was awarded the prestigious Karajan Scholarship and joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Sir Simon Rattle.

Since 2003 when joined the Opéra Royal de Wallonie as a solo harpist, Sluchin has promoted the harp in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. She has also performed with the Belgian National Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, La Monnaie, the Luxembourg Philarmonic Orchestra, the Nuove Musiche Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Ile de France and the Radio France Philarmonic Orchestra.

A passionate teacher, Sluchin taught in France, then at the Académie de Waremme, near Liège. Since 2010, she has been one of the driving forces of the Harpegio Association which supports and promotes the young Belgian harpists through master classes and the biennial international competition of the Musée des Instruments de Musique de Bruxelles.

This is Sluchin's second appearance with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

This season, Maestro Arie Lipsky is celebrating his 16th anniversary with your Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. Arie continues to grow a tremendous and loyal audience in Southeastern Michigan with concerts where both discerning and casual listeners alike are calling what they hear "an Ann Arbor Symphony sound" of confidence and clarity. As one reviewer said, "under the baton of Music Director Lipsky, the Orchestra played with finesse and polish that experience brings to bear." Lipsky and the A2SO created a CD, distributed on the Naxos label, of three pieces by American composer Paul Fetler. CDs are available at the A2SO Office, Amazon, Naxos.com, and iTunes.

Lipsky is also the Music Director of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra (Ohio), Principal Guest Conductor of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and Director of Chamber Music at the Chautauqua Institute. Lipsky served as the principal cellist for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for over 20 seasons. Lipsky, his wife Rachel, and daughter Inbal now call Ann Arbor home, having moved from Buffalo, New York, last season.
