2013 Van Cliburn Silver Medalist Beatrice Rana to Perform at Winter Center, 10/22

Perhaps one of the most famous and highly respected piano competitions in the world, the Van Cliburn Competition takes place every four years. Coming from across the globe, 30 of the world's finest pianists were chosen to compete in the 2013 Cliburn Competition. Italian-born Beatrice Rana took home the Silver Medal (2nd Place) AND the Audience Award this year. Rana has become recognized worldwide as one of the most significant artists of her generation. She will be performing in concert at the Winter Center, 60 Cottage Avenue on the Millersville University campus in Millersville, PA on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 PM.

Born into a family of musicians - both her parents are classical pianists -- Beatrice Rana began musical studies at the age of four and made her concert debut when she was nine. She has been invited to perform at the Busoni, La Folle Journeé, La Roque d'Antheró, Lanaudière, and Radio- France Festivals, and as a soloist with the Aarhus Symfoniokester, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Kuala Lumpur Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia, and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

First prize winner of the 2011 Montreal International Musical Competition, Rana also took first prize at the Muzio Clementi and Bang & Olufsen Piano Competitions.

She released her first CD in 2012 of works by Scriabin and Chopin on ATMA Classique. She currently studies with Arie Verdi at the Hannover Hochschule., having previously graduated from the Nino Rota Conservatory of Music.

Tickets on sale now. $23 general, $20 seniors, Free for MU students & $5 for non-MU students, all reserved seating. Tickets may be reserved calling the Ticket Office at 717-872-3811; online, at artsmu.com; Or in person at the Ware Center Box Office, 42 North Prince Street, Lancaster, PA or the SMC Building on the Millersville University campus. Ticket Offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM- 4:00 PM, and one hour prior to the performance. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged for this performance.
