After surviving a gunshot wound to her head from her daughter's entitled ex-boyfriend, Zenko Case is ready to tell her story of healing in her new memoir, "Despite Fear."
Her memoir takes readers through her marriage to her perfect partner, Al, and her skepticism of her daughter's new boyfriend, Glen. After her daughter ended the relationship, Glen invaded the Cases' home early one morning and attempted to kill the entire family in a rage.
When Case woke up in the hospital, she learned she needed to learn how to live all over again-and she had to do it without Al, who was killed in the attack. "I missed my husband so, so much. I still do. I had to learn to live without him, and without a part of myself."
Case found the strength to recover from her wounds, re-learn how to do everyday tasks, and eventually testify against Glen. "If there was ever a moment when I thought he was truly remorseful about the whole thing, it was when I walked into the courtroom and he saw my face again. He looked like he'd seen a ghost!"
Even though Glen was sentenced to prison for life, Case says her focus has mainly been on living her spirituality and demonstrating what people said would be impossible for her. "If I can come back from being shot through in the head and chest with a .38 bullet, anyone can. Nothing can kill a realized soul."
