After World War II, Europe rejected nationalism and started the European project, which brought uninterrupted peace since 1945. Author Yves Decock says he debunks that version of history in his new book, "Liberal Quicksand" (published by AuthorHouse UK).

"Peace in Europe is built on the full realization of a nationalist programme, based on linguistic divisions," the author says. "Such set-up is a necessity to create democracies in which the 'one man, one vote' rule applies. A European federation is possible and might even be a necessity in the long run, but it will have to rest upon the nation-states and never result from their destruction."

Decock says his book "will only appeal to readers who believe that understanding the past can be helpful to decide about the road to follow. The daring proposition might put off some readers right from the start. Hopefully it will intrigue them."

About the Author
Yves Decock breaks through classical liberalism and puts the realization of the nationalist program at the core of Europe's history of the last 200 years and, as such, renders justice to the statement by J. S. Mill that "free institutions are next to impossible in a country made up of different nationalities." He was born in Bruges, Belgium, in 1963, and earned a master's in philosophy at Rijksuniversiteit Gent, in 1986. This is his first book.
