As a new Canadian, Yury Vasiliev was inspired by the history and nature of Canada. Having lived in the country for 10 years, he decided to say his sincere and heartfelt thanks to his new home by writing a compelling historical fiction in "Saga of Carus" (published by Trafford Publishing).
This book follows Russian-born explorer Yeremey Vasiliev, who, at the dawn of the 19th century, traveled from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains and across Canada. He details his unforgettable journey, experiencing rough seas, boundless forests, great prairie, great lakes and great people. His story provides a deeper understanding of the people and land of Canada through the eyes of a newcomer to the country.
For the author, Canada is a great multicultural country. Friendly and hospitable to newcomers, this land also has a captivating history which he captured perfectly in this work of fiction. Vasiliev weaves in information about the 19th century life without bogging down the story. "This book aimed to help newcomers and those who interested in history of Canada to get to know the country better. As well as to say once again that the such values, as patriotism, friendship and diligence at work were as important at those times as nowadays," he says.
Combining history, adventure and romance, "Saga of Carus" is the author's tribute to Canada on its 150th anniversary - a country that welcomed him with open arms.
