Can gender cut down the ropes for an ambitious career climb? Women's continuous struggle for equality continues to amass support throughout the decades starting with the suffrage movement that sparked around the beginning of the 20th century. A study conducted by Ms. Magazine reveals the number of women calling themselves feminists increased from 50% in 2006 to 68% in 2012. Feminism is reaping positive recognition at last - thanks to strong advocacy. Yet, while many still believe women are undervalued in today's society, Yuko Sawa shows that gender and ambition can run independently from each other, even back in the bygone days of male-ruled 1980s. In "Heaven, Hell, and in Between" (published by Xlibris AU), Sawa unveils her own life story meriting the spirit of determination above gender and cultural influence.
As a young girl, Sawa experienced firsthand the impact of both Eastern and Western cultures. Japan and the United States offered her the middle class privilege of comparison, which she later used to bulldoze her way to success. Being bilingual and bicultural, Sawa was knowledgeable, determined and ready to obtain what was rarely achieved by any woman in the 1980s. Her wit and ability quickly brought her to the higher rungs of the corporate world of advertising. But despite her success, she still believes her story can be identifiable with anyone else's.
Moving and transcending, Sawa's tale shows how dreams can become more powerful weapons than social limitations. In her book, she shares personal thoughts and observations about family, politics, cultures and business from countries spanning Europe, Australia, America and Asia. "Heaven, Hell, and in Between" attempts to inspire readers to accept life without reservations, to celebrate individuality and be more open minded to every possibility. The author also shares her journey after retirement. She believes old age is never too late for a career shift and to pursue change as willed by the heart.
