Matthew A. Knight's new book Luke: Beloved Physician and Historian ($11.99, paperback, 9781498495868; $5.99, eBook, 9781498495875) shows readers that it is to Luke that we are indebted for the historical account of the circumstances surrounding the birth of John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus. Luke writes to a colleague Theophilus, who was evidently a citizen in a high position in Rome. Luke's account to Theophilus was not merely for his eyes but to promote an orderly account of the birth, growth, public ministry, the atoning death and ascension of the Lord Jesus as the Son of Man.

Matthew A. Knight has a Bachelor of Science degree in the natural sciences from the University of Otago and a Diploma of Christian Studies from the Bible College of New Zealand, now called Laidlaw College. He has continued his biblical studies with the church he attends, Cornerstone Wray Street International Church.
