Raymie embodied the idea of being treated as a person first and one with challenges second. His acceptance of other people and his friendly personality reached out to teach the importance of seeing through outward appearances to the real person beneath.
"[Raising Raymie: Lessons in Love and Joy] was written in response to the urging of friends and family who said that Raymie was too special a little guy not to have his story told so others could also learn to look for the good we all have inside us," said author Mary Cole.
Cole graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Delta State University, is licensed as an RN. While this is her first book, Mary Cole spent 21 years working as an administrative assistant in special education after writing a proposal to develop the first severe/profound daycare program, finished her formal career as a nurse for the special education division of the school system where she had worked for many years.
