Subscription services are all the rage this year, and a new initiative, Write or Read, aims to help writers and readers forge a closer relationship. Writer and e-book developer Sabrina Ricci founded the site writeorread.com to provide valuable metrics to authors in order to boost their chances of success.

"I want to help authors know what happens after they hit the publish button," Ricci said. "Write or Read's goal is to make data accessible to all authors, and to make it easy to directly connect writers with readers," Ricci said.

The site welcomes books, poems, articles, short stories, and more, giving readers flexibility to choose what they want to read. Currently in open beta, Write or Read needs to raise at least $10,000 on the crowdfunding site RocketHub by November 27 to fully launch. In exchange for funds, the site is offering stickers, t-shirts, and even helpful courses on how to make e-books.

"Our next steps are to implement key features to make it even easier for writers to publish," Ricci said. "This includes allowing authors to crowdsource copy-editing, letting readers rate books and message writers, supporting EPUB3 books with audio and video, and having the ability to read offline."

Write or Read is a subscription site for e-books, aiming to create a better, more direct connection between writers and readers. The site is currently in open beta, but once fully launched, readers will be able to access a wide variety of works, including books, short stories, poems, articles, and more. Writers will be able to see key analytics about their e-books, such as basic demographics of the readers, what percentage of their books are actually read, and how much time is spent reading.
