"Can there be true experience and not just faith in religion?" "What happened to the mystical part of Christianity?" Such intimately sincere longings of the soul for truth, coupled with the experience of horrible events during the September 11 attacks, impelled author Anthony Joseph to publish a new book that studies both the dark and positive aspects of the world's five major religions. Because of its bold and daring approach, unconventional and sometimes controversial views and ideas, he aptly titled it: Opening the Pandora's Box of Religion.

The overriding theme in Joseph's work is that it is completely possible, by practicing meditation for many years, to have a true and meaningful experience of what are often called one's guardian angels, or more correctly, one's spirit guides. It gives an assessment of where the varied world religions are in the path to spiritual fulfillment.

Joseph strongly believes what is deeply personal is greatly universal. He shows this by deftly connecting what is highly divine and transcendent with what is mundanely human and immanent. He has this to share:

"What is the bliss of org*sm? It is the moment the small self disappears and the blissful nature of the universe or god manifests, only to disappear again quickly. It is GOD'S TEASE! It is possible to maintain the same level of a bliss constant with enough meditation practice."

While the main characters may be the major religions-and to some extent, the author himself as a student meditation practitioner for more than 40 years-nonetheless, humanity is at the heart of its intentions. It portrays humanity as looking not only for the reason for states of suffering, but the way to solve them. It points out that Christianity needs to widen its field of spiritual practice to include the profound mystical traditions of eastern religion, traditions it possessed until the 6th century.

Encompassing, enlightening and encouraging, Opening the Pandora's Box of Religion hopes to offer some clarification in the endless confusions and mistakes about "god" and the universe. Joseph has generously put in his courage and creativity in taking this initiative of revealing something that the world badly needs to see.
