Word Design Press is pleased to announce the publication of Mo H Saidi's new book, "The Marchers: A Novel," an historical and autobiographical fiction.
This exciting and enlightening story occurs inside the crucible of the Iranian Revolution. Cyrus, the protagonist in the novel, has been living and practicing medicine in Texas. When he returns to Iran for an urgent family visit, he fails to see any connection between U.S. politics and the chaos in Iran. But it is the elephant in the room when they discuss the hated Shah, the bombing of government buildings, the marchers in the streets, and their own future. As an outsider in his own home, Cyrus observes how his family, friends, and former colleagues are split apart by ideas, and they cannot prophesy what is in store for them.
With rising opposition, the Shah fled the country and Ayatollah Khomeini returned. Readers witness the tension and frequent terror of life in two oppressive regimes through the eyes of people who lived through it. Along the way, the reader is treated to a fascinating view of Iranian culture and family life. This story explores the heights of sensitivity and passion in Persian poetry and the depths of human cruelty in the fanatical religious zealots who routinely persecute their own people.
The novel is based on the firsthand knowledge of the author, Dr. Mo Saidi, who was born in Iran and reared in a strict Muslim home, where he was forbidden to play his beloved chess and soccer, which were seen as a sinful waste of time. He went to medical school in Tehran, came to the United States and became a citizen in 1975. While practicing and teaching medicine Saidi earned a master's degree in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University. He has published three books of poetry and a collection of short stories, The Garden of Milk and Wine. His novel The Marchers: A Novel was serialized in Voices de la Luna: A Quarterly Poetry & Arts Magazine and is now available in print and digital version in the market and on the internet.
