The Save the Earth Poetry Contest is an annual contest for 11th and 12th grade students to encourage a connection with the natural world through poetry. Contestants are asked to submit an original poem that evokes humankind's awareness of the natural world and nature as such. The contest is based on John Felstiner's book, Can Poetry Save the Earth? A Field Guide to Nature Poems. Contest winners receive prize money and have their poems displayed on http://www.savetheearthpoems.com.

"This year's winners," says Charles Weeden, Contest Director, "are quite extraordinary poems. They reflect that magical time when youth's innate ability to see nature is combined with an adult sophistication to express those thoughts."

Please visit http://www.savetheearthpoems.com to read the winning poems or to find out entry and prize information for our 2014 contest. There is no charge for students to enter.
