For 100 years, The Leutz family has been vacationing to Clark Lake, Mich., building strong family ties and lifelong friendships. In his new book, "The Clams Are Still Baking: Memories of Clark Lake" (published by AuthorHouse) third generation William Leutz collects the memories and experiences of his family's life and times on Clark Lake, providing a record for future generations to enjoy.

"Anyone who has spent time at a family summer home, whether on the water, in the woods or the mountains, will probably find experiences with which they can identify," says Leutz. "It speaks to experiences of inter-family relationships and cohesion, as well as to coming-of-age situations for young boys and girls."

The book begins with Leutz's first visit to Clark Lake when he was six months old and extends to 2010. Not a single year passed that Leutz did not return to the lake with his family. Though his job took him around the world, Leutz held Clark Lake and its memories in a special place in his heart that compelled him to return each year to visit family and catch up with old friends.

"The Clams Are Still Baking" paints a beautiful memory of the summers and weekends that the Leutz family enjoyed over the years.

"I feel that memories and stories of the past, both historical and personal, are valuable records of local history and of changing lifestyles," says Leutz. "The regular loss of these is certainly unfortunate, but also, in some ways, tragic. I enjoy my genealogical hobby quite a bit, and always regret not knowing more about the daily lives of those ancestors for whom I can discover nothing more than cold historic dates and facts."
