In lieu with the pressing and alarming issues about the environment and its underlying effects to humans, author William H. Isely shares his extensive knowledge on what might be done by humanity to save itself from the excesses of the present emphasis on materialism at the cost to the environment in "The Snows of Summer." This book follows six friends who lead the task in saving the earth from climate change. Will they be successful?

This novel was originally created in response to a competition to submit novels of the future which emphasized problems of the environment and their solutions. It was emphasized in the competition that the novel be easily adapted to a movie format. Unfortunately, the criteria were abandoned by the judging committee, and this novel in an earlier version of over twenty years ago was relegated to a high storage shelf.

In the interim, the problems of climate change, a center piece of "The Snows of Summer", have been further aggravated by the continued dependence on fossil fuels, with a critical threat to the environment involving tar sands and fracking for natural gas and oil. With a prospect of 50 more years of cheap energy, the start toward an environmental friendly energy society seems to be coming to an end, making climate change more likely.

"The Snows of Summer" has been updated to include events that have transpired since its original writing to act as a belated warning that the environment has become fragile enough and industry-powerful enough that a continued ignoring of humanity's effects on the environment may put the future of the species at risk.

About the Author
William H. Isely was an aerospace engineer, who, after retiring, spent 20 years with his wife on an old mountain farm in North California demonstrating a sustainable lifestyle including generating hydroelectric power, growing food year round in a thermal greenhouse, and heating with dead wood that dropped in his wood lot. His disappointment in life is that humanity has lost its adventurous spirit by not returning to the moon and going to Mars.
