Author Will Kalinke's 2011 book "Victims and Vultures" (published by Trafford Publishing) is now a contender for the Trafford Gold Seal recognition program, awarded to books that demonstrate exceptional writing quality and overall potential.

Within the pages of "Victims and Vultures," Kalinke tells a story based on the experiences of a young runaway he brought into his home for reprieve from a sexually abusive situation. This young man shared his story with Kalinke, and they decided it was a story worth sharing with the world.

The story centers on Paul, a victim of sexual assault, who shows up at Will's doorstep just as a heavy thunderstorm approaches. The two become friends and eventually Will becomes Paul's mentor, guiding him through the healing stages of overcoming his abusive past.

An excerpt from "Victims and Vultures":

"I was at a loss for answers - or of questions. This was an unusual encounter. I was stupid to get involved, but I couldn't ignore him under the circumstances with that storm rapidly approaching. That was a real push/pull situation, which required a fast decision."
