Western Maryland Regional Library (Hagerstown, MD] in partnership with RBdigital from Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD), is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of Zinio for Libraries. Awarded Best New Database of 2012 by Library Journal, Zinio is the world's largest newsstand, offering multi-user access to popular publications.
Through http://www.westmdlib.info/, patrons of Western Maryland Regional Library will have unlimited simultaneous access to complete digital magazines, which can easily be viewed on any Internet-enabled device inside or outside of the library. Zinio's unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search and interactive elements such as audio and video.
"We are extremely excited to be able to let people across Western Maryland read magazines on their tablets and mobile devices just as they would a print edition," says Joseph Thompson, Associate Director, Western Maryland Regional Library. "You can skim the cover, turn pages, and casually find articles of interest just as you would a real magazine. National Geographic even includes interactive elements and videos! Zinio allows us to take a familiar format and put it online so people can get it whenever they want."
Please see your Western Maryland Regional Library librarian for more information on how to access this service once available, or go to http://www.westmdlib.info/. Zinio is planned to be launched in Western Maryland Regional Libraries on May 1.
