'We Have to Change' Exposes Problems Affecting the World

With a desire to increase public awareness and inform policy makers, author Maria Ronay wrote her new book, "We Have to Change: Taking Action to Stabilize Climate Change, Curb Population Growth Including Immigration, End Poverty, and the Liquidation of Nature's Capital" (published by iUniverse).

Ronay outlines four major problems facing the world: climate change, liquidation of nature capital, world poverty and unsustainable population growth. Each problem has consequences that affect the other three problems. Ronay utilizes data to show the severity of these issues.

"If current trends of soil degradation continue in Africa," Ronay writes, "the continent might be able to feed just 25 percent of its population by 2025, according to the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa."

Not looking to just cause dread, Ronay suggests solutions to mitigate these problems. She suggests alternatives to current systems and ways of utilizing current resources more efficiently.

An excerpt from "We Have to Change":

"The government will have to spend about 1 percent of the US GDP, or $140 billion per year, to invest in carbon-reducing technologies. How else can the US government raise money than by taxes? The most straightforward method is to have a carbon tax and spend it on reducing carbon emissions in the most efficient and transparent ways."
