NEW YORK, NY - Iconic American author Walter Tevis (1928-1984) continues to endear new readers with the release his classic novels in eBook editions. In a deal brokered by Susan Schulman of Susan Schulman Literary Agency on behalf of The Walter Tevis Copyright Trust, and with the assistance of Associate Publisher Roger Cooper, RosettaBooks acquired the North American rights of Tevis' six novels and short story collection, led by The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Queen's Gambit.

"We're delighted to have RosettaBooks publish the eBook versions of Walter Tevis' classic novels, so that they have the opportunity to reach a new generation of readers," said Eleanora Tevis, Trustee of The Walter Tevis Copyright Trust.

The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Color of Money and The Hustler are widely recognized for their screen adaptations. The adaptation of Tevis' first novel The Hustler in 1961 received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Paul Newman as "Fast Eddie." The sequel to The Hustler, The Color of Money, directed by Martin Scorsese, was nominated for four Academy Awards, including a Best Actor win for Newman who reprised his role in 1986 as "Fast Eddie."

Many may know the 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring David Bowie, but the novel itself has been praised as a beautiful work of science fiction.

Tevis also wrote the coming-of-age novel, The Queen's Gambit, and science fiction novels, Mockingbird and The Steps of the Sun.

Readers who would like an introduction to Tevis' novels may enjoy Far From Home, an anthology of his shorter works, many of which appeared in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Redbook, and Playboy.

Walter Tevis was born in San Francisco in 1928. After his discharge from the Navy, he studied at the University of Kentucky where he received B.A. and M.A. degrees in English Literature and studied with Abe Guthrie, author of The Big Sky. Upon graduation he taught everything from the sciences and English to physical education in small-town Kentucky high schools. At that time he began writing short stories, which were published in the Saturday Evening Post, Esquire, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, and Playboy. He taught English literature and creative writing at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio for fourteen years, where he was a distinguished professor, and left that post in 1978 to come to New York and resume writing. He died of lung cancer in 1984. His books have been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, Greek, Slovak, Serbo-Croatian, Israeli, Turkish, Japanese, and Thai.

All seven Walter Tevis eBooks are available exclusivity at Amazon Kindle.
