Eugene Jacques Bullard could have been a hero in the U.S. military if not for his race. While his childhood was filled with tales of racial equality in France, he experienced racial inequality at home in Georgia. At the very young age of eight, alone, he ran away from home to begin his journey to France where he would eventually join the French Foreign Legion at age 19. Author Henry Scott Harris captures the life and times of this often forgotten and ignored American hero in his new book 'All Blood Runs Red'.

"I was so captivated," says Harris, describing his feelings when he first began his research into Bullard. "I had to know more, and felt that the public had overlooked a real role model. Eugene Jacques Bullard led the way, flying a quarter century before the Tuskegee Airman of World War II. He deserved credit while he was alive, but unfortunately was ignored due to the racial divide during his lifetime."

Bullard's path to France was not a direct one; he lived among gypsies, was a field hand, assisted a barber, and more. Eventually, he stowed away a German freighter and "dumped ashore" in Scotland. As a teenager, he was a boxer, a street dancer and had his first love affair. Overcoming obstacles, achieved his dream and finally reached France.

Determined to join the French military, he had to convince doubting recruiters and was able to enlist in the French Foreign Legion. Though seriously wounded in World War I, Bullard refused discharge, and was instead able to start pilot training for the French Flying Corps. He officially became the first African-American military aviator. He served in two wars, in the second he was a resistance fighter and a spy and was awarded France's highest awards for bravery.

After 30 years in Europe, Bullard returned to the US where he aided US intelligence. Sixty years after his first combat flight, he was posthumously commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Harris wants the world to know more about this unsung hero: "Each chapter in my book dramatically defines a major incident in Bullard's life; the life of a man undefeated. A hero whose personal motto was 'All blood runs red.'"

'All Blood Runs Red: Life and Legends of Eugene Jacques Bullard - First Black American Military Aviator' is published exclusively in eBook format by eBookIt.com and is now available from popular online retailers, including Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, and Apple's iBookstore.

About Henry Scott Harris
Henry Scott Harris, a native New Yorker, is a World War II Navy veteran and a graduate of New England College who had an award-winning career in advertising, marketing, and public relations. Long active in community service, he was a member of Governor Rockefeller's Economic Commission and was a volunteer director of the USO. He also created and produced the first telethon for the Association of Retarded Children (now known as "Arc of the United States").

After serving as a National Director for Metro-CBS- Radio/TV, he and his wife "retired" to Arizona, traveled extensively, and wrote articles for magazines and newspapers. They also became volunteer teachers in elementary and high schools, and were amazed to find that many students knew very little about history, and especially the war years (such things as "Why is December 7th notable? Where is Iwo Jima and what happened there? Who was Eisenhower?"). As a result, Harris organized a highly successful 'living history' program - "Heroes and the Holocaust" - that featured veterans and a survivor of the Bergen-Belsen camp who visited schools, relating their own experiences during this tumultuous time.

Harris and his wife now live in Melbourne, Florida.
