Laren Rusch Watson was shocked when, despite leading a healthy life "eating all organic, doing my yoga, drinking my green smoothies, doing everything 'right,'" she was diagnosed with two rare, hard-to-treat cancers. "WTF?! I Have Cancer? How to Get Through the Hardest Time of Your Life With Strength and Optimism" (published by Balboa Press) is a part-memoir, part-how-to, book that chronicles a health coach's journey through two back-to-back aggressive cancers. Combining east and west, she emerges stronger, wiser and enlightened.
"I was so shocked by my rare and aggressive, stage 4 cancer diagnosis, since I was an all organic, healthy living holistic health coach, that I delved into researching things like the immune system to see if I could figure out how this had happened," Watson explains. "I began practicing meditation and visualization in earnest and reading about the power of optimism and gratitude. I was willing to try it all in an attempt to save my life."
The first part of the book is dedicated to Watson's personal battle with cancer; the second half provides the reader with practical advice and wisdom Watson picked up along the way to help cancer patients or anyone who wants to avoid cancer to be as healthy, strong and optimistic as possible.

About the Author
Laren Rusch Watson became passionate about organic food and nutrition when her kids were born, wanting to feed them in the most nutritious way possible. It soon became an obsession and then a career. After 25 years as a graphic designer, in 2010, she decided to go back to school to become a holistic health and nutrition coach. Little did she know that her hardest work lay ahead when just three years later she was diagnosed with not one, but two aggressive and hard to treat cancers at essentially the same time. Through combining eastern and western approaches, she managed to beat the odds and learn some big lessons about the body, mind and spirit along the way. She lives with her husband of 18 years, her two teenage kids and her loyal dog just outside of Seattle.
