Characters turn horrible past experiences into positive situations in author Elaine E. Sherwood's new novel, "When All Else Fails: Book One of the Sweet Ever After series" (published by iUniverse).
Kathy Ann Martin enters witness protection and eventually becomes Dr. Lauren Ann Reynolds. When she and Bryce Peterson meet they realize there is still a chance they can find the kind of love they always wanted. Both are wounded people with childhoods filled with trouble and despair. Their pasts continue to haunt them and affect the decisions they make, however they choose life and love.
"A person's past does not dictate their future," Sherwood says. "We all have choices. It's important not to let our circumstances dominate us."
Sherwood hopes readers will relate to the imperfections of the main characters and their desire to find true happiness in the midst of hard times. The book aims to show the common struggle of mankind and the belief many hold that their pain must be leading them to something greater.
An excerpt from "When All Else Fails":
"None of this sat well with me. My whole life was now one big fat lie! I felt rather like a 'fake' person floating in a sea of nothingness, unable to see the shoreline or touch the bottom beneath the loneliness."
