World-wide lecturer, Fr. Con Buckley, offers a collection of model introductions, homilies, prayers and reflections that have been tried and tested at parish level. The fresh imaginative impact of his liturgical material, now available in the pages of "Wheels of Light" (published by AuthorHouse UK), has been affirmed again and again by his flock, who regularly say: "What a lovely mass, what a moving homily, I especially liked the reflection, could I have a copy."
This is a comprehensive parish resource book. It comprises 700 pages of focused introductions, homilies, prayers and reflections covering all Sunday masses in the three cycles of the church year, with extra materials for major feast days. Very much addressed to Catholic mass-goers, and notably ministers presiding at the Eucharist, it provides a more than useful resource to draw on, for those celebrating the rich liturgy given by the church.
For, according to the author, the overall theme is the provision of a method and material that mediate that richness more effectively. The work's new "seamless robe" approach helps in this; key scriptural or festal themes are echoed and reinforced throughout the mass so that people can own them and take them home.
"That's also why I end with lively life-reflections calculated to win attention and stay with the congregation long after they leave the church. For the mass should provide spiritual sustenance, not just for Sunday, but also for the week ahead," Buckley says. To him, the liturgy is the main educator of the faithful and this book provides a comprehensive education in the faith. It is a deep exploration of Christ's infinite, saving and timeless teaching, and a fount of relevant contemporary applications, examples and illustrations of the gospel for those who celebrate mass and live their faith in today's busy world.
