Dasha was a fourteen-year-old Russian immigrant when she came to America in the 1930s. After marrying, she had six children with her husband before kicking him out. Her survival story as a single mother is told by her youngest daughter, who describes her childhood growing up in Brooklyn during the Depression and World War II. With a wonderful blend of culture, history, and nostalgia, 'Dasha" is a story for all generations to relish and learn from.

About the Author: Violet J. Weiner pursued a creative life after her first grandchild was born. She registered in UCLA's creative writing program and was probably the oldest person in her classes. The author says that she was also the most insecure, for everyone else was on a computer, while she was still using a pen and notebook. Born in Brooklyn, she lived most of her adult life in upstate New York, "but I carried Brooklyn with me wherever I went, for its character and defined street smarts." She worked in an elementary school in upstate New York as an assistant to the principal with 750 children to educate, which was a great time in her life.
